ALICE detects the conversion of lead into gold at the LHC!

The idea is that you throw a bunch of subatomic particles around and, kaboom, magnetic fields kick the protons off of lead nuclei, leading to gold. The products will be radioactive.

Good for you, Alice! Here at wizardpeter.com, we are all about radioactivity and alchemy, of course.

Glenn Seaborg (ALCHEMIST) also transmutated nuclei to make gold but I guess he started with bismuth-209, which is not exactly quite the Magnum Opus starting from lead -- but whatever, if you end up with GOLD, I don't think anyone can really whine too much about the specifics.
